The second series of the live action children’s drama First Day has been nominated for a prestigious Banff Rockies Award.

First Day S2, produced by Epic Films for the ABC, will compete in the Live Action: Youth category at the award ceremony to be held on 12 June 2023.

The Banff World Media Festival competition recognises excellence in global television and digital content. Entries from more than 45 countries will compete this year. Winners are selected by an international jury of more than 150 entertainment and media professionals.

First Day is a truly ground-breaking series: it tells the story of a transgender teenager’s high school experience and is the first Australian children’s series to star a transgender lead actor. It has been extremely successful, airing in more than 20 countries across the world and winning awards both at home and internationally.

The first season of First Day won a 2021 Rockie Award, an International Emmy Award, and accolades at the Rose d’Or Awards, Kidscreen Awards and the GLAAD Media Awards.
